Storm Damage Inspections

Owning a home in southeast New Mexico means that, inevitably, you will have damage from wind or hail. If you see or suspect that your home has been damaged by a storm, you should do two things: file an insurance claim, and have your home independently inspected. Roofing companies and your insurance carrier will most likely do their own evaluations. But roofers want to sell roofs, and insurance companies often don’t want to pay for it, at least not all of it. We’ve all heard stories about denied claims. Our Certified Master Inspector® has insurance claim adjusting experience, and is an objective party. He’ll document the damage for you and provide a report that includes date/time stamped photos. And we don’t just inspect the roof. Homes often have wind or hail damage to other components such as the siding and windows.

Don’t wait too long! Some insurance policies have limits on how long they provide coverage after the date of loss, and most require steps be taken to mitigate further damage. For example: wind has damaged your roof shingles and created an opening and you don’t cover it in a reasonable timeframe. A few weeks later, water from a rainstorm enters the roof at the location and damages your kitchen ceiling. Because no mitigation was done, there likely wouldn’t be policy coverage for the subsequent ceiling damage. Many insurance policies actually provide coverage for the cost to tarp the roof to prevent further damage, sometimes with no deductible.

Please note: our storm damage inspection is intended as a first step to allow you to learn what damage exists and plan for repairs. We are not public adjusters, mediators, or appraisers. No repair estimate will be provided with our damage assessment.
